see the difference
I am a very versatile creator. Looking through my portfolio you might notice that most of my work doesn't look like a mere photograph. Some work is more creative and involves "high end retouching", where as other work is more "editorial" in nature, as demonstrated below. Most photographers fall into the editorial category, which is intended to document a "natural" looking moment. The creative category is more focused on creating something beautiful and eye catching, intended for print or publication.
Creative (high end retouching)
Creative sessions are typically shot with the use of creative lighting and the images are then processed via high end retouching techniques. High end retouching involves sculpting the body, face, hair, make up, skin and environment to look as natural or as painterly as desired. This is generally a much longer process, akin to creating a painting, taking up anywhere between 30 minutes to 3 hours per image. Thus the photographer only delivers a handful of images per session.
Editorial (basic retouching)
Editorial style sessions are generally shot using only natural light. Editorial retouching involves adjusting the exposure, framing and colours of the image but otherwise leaving everything else as is. This process is much quicker and only takes a few seconds or minutes per image, thereby the photographer is able to deliver a much higher volume of images to the client for a lower cost.
